Abstract

ABSTRACTThis paper turns Hillman on Hillman to examine a powerfully evocative literary device appearing throughout his work and used to lead readers to discover new points of view, arguably to create soul. Taking a fresh approach to considering how Hillman’s style carries the ideas and theory of his thinking, the paper explores how Hillman’s theories of image applied in dream work open up this literary move and give it independent meaning. This exploration contributes to answering the question of how Hillman’s thinking about and use of language exemplifies his intellectual approach to depth psychology and his continuation and elaboration of Jungian theory.
