Abstract

The purpose of this article is to review the development of sport policy in Jamaica. The article provides a brief assessment of the political structure and the gradual involvement of the Jamaican state in sport. It also highlights the government’s administrative system for implementing sport policy and provides an outline for the key legislative policies for funding sport. It further outlines the roles played by the commercial and non-profit organizations within sport in Jamaica. The article concludes with a discussion on the contemporary and emerging issues in Jamaican sport policy, highlighting the need for comprehensive research to better serve the implementation of a revitalized national sport policy.
