Abstract
The present article will concentrate on the period after the advent of Jainism till the time of Aryabhata around 500 AD. The reason for selecting this time period is that, till recently, it was thought to be a time when there was very little mathematical activity in India. This period shall be referred to as Jain Mathematics period. Basically Jain religious literature is classified into four groups. “Anuyoga”(the exposition of the principles of Jainism) and “Ganitanuyoga”(the exposition of the principles of mathematics) were considered prominent among those. The Jain Mathematics played a significant role when the Brahamin granthas went behind the scenes and Saidhantic Astronomy started taking shape.
