Abstract

Shortly after his return to Nancy from Florence, Jacques Callot etched the series of four prints called Les Bohémiens1 or, as they were referred to in the inventory of 1635 of Callot's possessions, La Vie des Egyptiens.2 These etchings, retouched with a burin, are among the most popular works by Callot. They were printed in four states and have often been copied.
