Abstract

The first piece of U.S. legislation inspired by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Jackson‐Vanik amendment has acted as a catalyst in hastening Soviet Jewish emigration policies and, contrary to popular opinion, its application contributed to—not undermined—detente.
