Abstract

This article presents a survey among Norwegian adolescence focused on predicting environment-friendly behaviour from demographic variables, global environmental attitudes, as well as a more cognitive oriented scale (“Consideration of future consequences”). Self-reported degree of involvement in several different pro-environment behaviours both related to saving and recycling activities, were measured. The study shows that environment-friendly behaviour can be predicted quite well from demographic variables, “New Environmental Paradigm Scale”, and “Consideration of future consequences”. However, the best single predictor of environment-friendly behaviour was to what extent the subjects reported that they had a preference for spending time in the natural environment.
