Abstract

Gait motion needs the complex posture control, and then the each gait motion needs appropriate the posture control. In particular, the geometry of contact ground affects the posture control significantly, and there are significant differences between stairs ascending or descending and flat walking. It is necessary to evaluate each characteristic by gait analysis quantitatively and to design the safer stairs. Past studies mainly focused on only kinematics of lower limb during stair lifting. In addition, conventional gait analysis could apply for the experimental stairs in the laboratory. The aim of this study is to measure the gait motion on the different types of stairs by using the developed wearable sensor system and to evaluate the motion of stairs ascending or descending. As the results of gait analysis for stairs ascending and descending, joint flexion/extension angle and sagittal/horizontal trajectory, gait features could be calculated. Also, some differences were confirmed between the flat walking and ascending/descending.
