Abstract

This paper presents a new design procedure for wheel tread profile of railway vehicle using Genetic Algorithm (GA). In the design of tread profile, double point contact of the wheel with the rail on both flange and tread must be avoided as much as possible to reduce the wear. Here, the inclination diagram is used in the design procedure for avoiding the double point contact, in which the inclination of wheel tread is used as the gene for GA. Two tread profiles are designed as an example using this procedure, and the running performance of them is investigated by numerical simulation.
