Abstract

This paper details experimental studies on the secondary flow losses in low-pressure turbine (LPT) cascades. A large portion of overall loss in LPT is due to secondary flow loss. Hence it is important to understand the mechanisms of secondary flow loss production. Moreover, strong wake generated by the upstream blade rows exists in a turbine. This causes aerodynamic interaction of the secondary flow and boundary layer separation in the downstream blade rows, resulting in a complex flow field in the secondary flow region. The objective of this study is to investigate the detail of secondary flow losses under the effect of wake-passing.
