Abstract

Short C60 nanowhiskers (C60NWs) with a mean length of 8.1 11111 were synthesized by a modified LLIP method using C60-saturated toluene and isopropyl alcohol. The polymerization of C60NWs by use of the laser beam with a wavelength of 532 nm was investigated, using a Raman spectroscopy apparatus. The polymerization condition was investigated for the parameters of laser beam power density and energy dose. A laser beam energy dose greater than about 200 .1/mm2 was necessary for the polymerization of C60NWs in air at room temperature. The polymerization of C60NWs by irradiation of UV light was also investigated. The photopolymerization phenomena of C60NWs between the above two methods are compared.
