Abstract

Functionally gradient material (FGM) with four concentric layers was fabricated by spark plasma sintering (SPS). SPS can consolidate compacts at lower sintering temperature and in shorter sintering duration compared with conventional sinterings, such as hot-pressing or HIP. The FGMs were composed of hydroxyapatite (HA), β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP), and titanium hydride (TiH_2). The effect of sintering voltage, volume fraction of HA and β-TCP on the bending strength of FGMs will be discussed.
