Abstract

This paper describes the fatigue behaviors of coating composites that possesses pure titanium substrates and plasma-sprayed hydroxyapatite and titanium powder coatings. Number of cracks on the cross-section of coating in tension-tension loading is larger than that in compression-compression loading. Acoustic emission signals is also observed and these results shows the clear correlation between the total event count of AE signals and fatigue lives. The best condition of coatings, showed the least counts of AEs, is hydroxyapatite top coat and hydroxyapatite/titanium powders bond coat, each of which has 100 μm thickness.
