Abstract

Fergusson was born in Scotland in 1881 and received his medical education at Trinity College, Cambridge, and St. Thomas's Hospital. I first came in contact with him during the last war when, at Rouen, he was obtaining X-ray plates with a mixed assembly of apparatus that would have baffled the efforts of most people. Resource and inventiveness were characteristic of him, and at the beginning of the present war he elaborated a method which he had envisaged in the last war for the localisation of foreign bodies in the brain, and made a beautiful scale model of an apparatus for this purpose.
