Abstract
Mixing of J states in the intermediate S 1 excess energy region (≈ 3000 cm −1) of propynal, HCCCHO has been demonstrated by analysis of sub natural linewidth quantum beat spectra. Mixing is weak, and is proposed to be primarily induced by hyperfine interaction via the Fermi contact term which mixes fine structure components of triplet rovibronic states.
