Ixtlamatilistli: una mirada interior al conocimiento de los maseualmej de Chicontepec

Abstract

In this paper we present some of the results of a doctoral research on the knowledge of the tlachianij –Nahuas healers– of Chicontepec. The way in which knowledge is created has been analyzed by many scholars, however, the knowledge of the subaltern classes –such as the tlachianij– is studied by experts in a sort of subordination to the categories used in the scientific field, in which case, a dominant logic of knowledge operates. The construction of another type of knowledge is necessary in a plural society; hence our objective is to analyze the knowledge that is made and practiced among the maseualmej of Chicontepec, Veracruz, and its importance in the generation of a very particular wisdom, whose social usefulness we explain in this text.
