Abstract

Živojin O. Dačić was a professor and the manager of the State Printing House of the Kingdom of Serbia. He served as a high school teacher in Vranje, Jagodina, and Belgrade. He was a clerk of the Ministry of Education, the State Archives, and the Secretary of the University from 1901 to 1910. He left this position to become the manager of the State Printing House, where he remained until 1919. He dedicated his life to introducing literacy to the Serbian people in Serbia and abroad. Živojin had a strong desire to help his mostly educated people by founding and printing newspapers. That desire was especially expressed while he was working as the Secretary of the University of Belgrade. Carried by that thought, he founded "The Public newspaper"(,,Narodne novine’’) in Belgrade in 1907. Working on the education of his people, he paid special attention to the newly liberated parts of old Serbia, after 1912. Živojin Dačić was a prominent Serbian patriot and the country’s finest servant. Wherever he was and whatever position he took, he tried with all his efforts to help the Serbian people to survive in those areas. At the same time, he aspired to promote education. He spent the second Balkan war on the front line in Old Serbia, leaving a testimony about the war with the Bulgarians. Unlike the Balkan wars, he spent the First World War in Geneva. Just before the end of the war, he became seriously ill. He died on May 24th, 1920 in Belgrade.
