Abstract

Background and Aim: Light is an environmental factor present in assisted reproduction techniques (ART). Although 95% of the light received by the gametes and embryos comes from microscopy during manipulation and observation, only 5% comes from laboratory ambient light. However, ambient light could also influence on the results of ART cycles. Most laboratories work with low intensity ambient light, usually white or yellow light, with the idea that the laboratory environment has to be as similar as possible to the environment in which gametes and embryos would be in natural conditions.
