Abstract
The fertilization and culture of mammalian embryos in vitro serves as the basis of modern reproductive technologies and embryonic stem cell biology. Such culture and manipulation of embryos however causes a reduction in their variability and developmental competence. This loss of viability is thought to be caused by multiple sources of cellular stress resulting from culture. This study was designed to determine the molecular determinants of this loss of viablity.
