Abstract

The 37th International Congress of Physiological Sciences (ICPS), sponsored primarily by the International Union of Physiological Sciences (IUPS) and organized by The Physiological Society (TPS) of the United Kingdom (UK), will meet in Birmingham, UK from 21 to 26 July 2013. All members of the world-wide international community of animal physiologists are invited to contribute to the development of the most interesting, significant, diverse and balanced scientific program ever presented at one of these Congresses. Detailed information concerning all aspects of the Congress may be found online at www.iups2013.org. The Congress organizers wish to develop and present a scientific program that will be valuable for the broadest possible range of physiological researchers, students, and teachers. They also plan to make the Birmingham Congress the most accessible ever to interested members of the general public and the communications media. To this end there will be extensive use of the most up to date technologies. The Congress program will include presentations of state of the art, cutting edge research results in areas of physiology extending from the genetic and molecular to the system, organismic and ecosystem levels. Subject areas will range from the primarily biomedical to epigenetics, veterinary, comparative, ecological, environmental, evolutionary, paleobiological, and conservation physiology. Education in physiology and ethical considerations in the broad field will be represented. There will be multiple plenary lectures by outstanding workers in these fields. The program of the Congress itself will include topical symposia, featured topic sessions, late-breaking symposia, panel discussions and workshops. Before and after the Congress there will be multiple satellite symposia on many topics. TPShas establisheda timetableforsubmissions of proposalsforthe various categories of sessions mentioned.
