Abstract

In the first part of this article the Yang–Gu algorithm for phase-amplitude retrieval starting by minimizing a functional is applied to the general problem of beam-shaping through amplitude masks. The analysis is not limited to the far field, but assumes the most general form for the beam propagation operator in the framework of the scalar diffraction theory. In the second part the particular case of beam apodization is studied leading to a novel method for designing apodized apertures capable of performing beam-shaping at the same time.
