Abstract

ABSTRACT Mecklenburg County, North Carolina has seen exponential growth in its Hispanic population. Recognizing that this growth requires the public library to reinvent itself to meet the needs of Hispanic patrons, the research team surveyed Spanish-speaking Hispanics living in Mecklenburg County and interviewed Spanish-speaking outreach librarians to better understand the priorities of this patron group. Findings suggest that current library programming is in line with the priorities of Spanish-speaking Hispanic community members, but more effective outreach needs to be done to inform the Hispanic community about the services and programming offered by the public library.
