Abstract

Nowadays distributed simulation technologies are often objective or instruments of academic research projects. Many inter process communication (IPC) standards have been proposed and many solutions have been found to supply a distributed simulation framework. Nevertheless these technologies were not adopted by industries. The main aim of this paper is to point out some guidelines and best practices for the implementation of such environments in actual industrial situation in terms of efficiency, robustness and effectiveness. Starting from the objectives of the modelling and simulation of the plants and of their control, the paper presents issues arising from time management approaches, IPC standards and their efficiency due to delay in information propagation, and plant modelling architectures and solutions
