Abstract

This symposium is designed to advance advice research by placing a spotlight on interpersonal influences in advice interactions. The presentations demonstrate how interpersonal considerations impact the exchange of advice at each stage of the process: before the interaction, during the interaction, and after the interaction. By highlighting the importance of interpersonal considerations at each of these phases, which could accumulate over the course of an advice interaction, the presentations collectively illustrate the potential impact of these previously underemphasized influences. By placing emphasis on interpersonal considerations in advice exchange, these presentations offer new insights into the complexity of advice interactions.
