Abstract

The dosage of X and Y chromosome genes varies systematically in males and females. In mammals, X inactivation largely compensates for this, but in this issue of Developmental Cell, Wijchers etal. show that the expression of hundreds of autosomal genes is still influenced by sex chromosome dosage, independently of physiological sex.
