Abstract

The clerical personnel in our offices are far more aware of what we do than most of us suspect. They possess amazingly precise insights into the purported technicalities and intricacies of our profession. Quite frequently they are called upon to do things— without training, experience, or guidance—which we would hesi tate to attempt ourselves. And they succeed! They talk about us among themselves, and much of what they say is pertinent. But we aren't listening. A communication gap exists which the administrator and the professional worker would do well to narrow. The initiative must be taken by the administrator and his staff. A closer relationship will contribute to improved staff efficiency and a sharpened correctional process.
