Abstract

With practical utilization of Electronic Toll Collection System (ETCS) and smart card system, Korea Highway Cooperation (KHC) has operated toll plazas from 2000 and made plans for expansion of these systems to all Freeways (National Highways). Nevertheless, the previous developed toll plaza design method using queuing model according to vehicle's arrival rate and service time at a toll has limitations because of various payment type and dynamic change of inflow traffic volume. In this paper we developed IT integrated toll plaza simulation system sponsored by Korean government. In this advanced simulation system driver's stochastic lane selection behavior patterns are added. The important functions of toll plaza system in terms of three-phase operation flow and the driver's behavior model are incorporated. We evaluated the system for current capacity analysis of Guri toll plaza in Seoul beltway.
