Now, in 2023, ISWCAP has grown into a multidisciplinary global organisation with >1500 members. Our directors come from diverse backgrounds and experience, making ISWCAP unique and poised to drive change in prevention, early detection, diagnosis, and clinical management of postoperative wound complications. ISWCAP's vision is to generate global awareness of surgical wound complications, advances in the field and, in time, provide solutions from scholarly research and education. This supplement is a natural evolution of ISWCAP as an organisation and provides a vehicle for dissemination of innovation, whether scientific, educational or clinical. This edition presents papers investigating contemporary issues in the field such as the use of predictive models in determining risk of surgical wound complications, describing the patient perspective in surgical wound care, as well as knowledge and practice of nursing staff about the management of acute surgical wounds in Saudi Arabia to mention a few. Someone once said to me you will get there faster alone, but you will go further together. There are many people to thank who have contributed to this next step including Vice President Tomas Serena, ISWCAP panel, Gulnaz Tariq, MA Publishing and Ominamed Communications, industry partners, and you, the reader, who continues to challenge the status quo and have a thirst for knowledge that will always lead to better outcomes for the surgical patient. The ISWCAP Supplement is a collaboration between the Journal of Wound Care and ISWCAP. The supplement brings together research that relates to all aspects of surgical wounds from all healthcare settings. This includes:Providing new insight into the epidemiology, prevention or surveillance of surgical wound complications, such as surgical site infection, surgical wound dehiscenceProviding new insight into diagnosis and monitoring techniques of surgical wound complicationsProviding new insight into interventions pre-, intra- and postoperatively that impact or reduce adverse outcomes with reference to incision careImproving our understanding of motivating factors for safer healthcare, and/or patient behaviour and cultural changeImproving the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced technologies that improve patient-related outcomes and our understanding of the use of digital technologies in patient managementProviding insight into advances in low-to-middle resource settings. The supplement also welcomes submissions that relate to the development and implementation of national or international guidelines. We hope you find it stimulating, thought-provoking and insightful.
