Abstract

This article focuses on exploring the developmental history of Japanese education in Russia since the drifted Japanese Dembei arrived in Russia during the early 18th century. It is found out that Japanese education has evolved constantly in Russia, from accidental, small-scale and low-level to official, large-scale and high-level. Especially in the years after the Cold War, it ranks higher than any other Eastern European countries in the number of Japanese teaching institutions, Japanese teachers and learners.
