Abstract

When examining engineering problems and physical phenomena, accurate results obtained in the laboratory calculations do not ensure compliance with actual results. Therefore, the results of analytical tests should be compared with experimental results. However, in the case of modern complex systems, including electromagnetic compatibility problems, which are characterized by numerous external influences, a direct comparison of a single calculation with a single experiment can often give absolutely unique results. The article refers to physical phenomena occurring in the traction network related to ensuring electromagnetic compatibility of the electric traction system with other railway devices. Characteristics of traction network (overhead and rail network) in terms of the possibility of calculating its parameters useful in the consideration of electromagnetic compatibility issues are presented. Replacement diagrams of traction networks (overhead and rail network) are shown. Calculation results obtained for networks with clustered and distributed parameters are shown. It was found that the treatment in calculations of the traction network with distributed parameters gives results very similar to those obtained in real conditions.
