Abstract

After the reform and opening up began in 1978, China’s land property right system grew quickly. To state-ownership of land have been added a number of new land use models, including use of rural land by management contract, use of rural residential land and use of rural land for construction purposes. The establishment of these rights makes it possible to transfer the right to use without changing the land in terms of either its physical condition or its ownership. Since, China has gone from prohibiting the circulation of rural land altogether, to allowing it on a limited basis, to giving tacit approval to all forms of it, and finally to openly encouraging it.
