Abstract
The unsustainable rise in healthcare costs (thanks to the ageing population in many countries) calls for a new healthcare paradigm and e-Health (Healthcare based on information and communication technologies) may be the answer. A number of studies in different parts of the world suggest that the technology for eHealth may be viable. However, the economic viability is an extremely important aspect if eHealth has to be adopted globally including developed and developing countries. The assessment of economic benefits is a complex task given the fact that healthcare involves different stakeholders, such as patients, physicians, healthcare provider organizations, governments. The analysis would need to consider the benefits and costs. This paper presents a discussion on various issues involved in the assessment of cost of eHealth for healthcare delivery.
