Abstract
Aims: This study examined the perceptions of treatment by service users who had been diagnosed with an eating disorder Methods: A qualitative research design using Consensual Qualitative Research (CQR) was used. A focus group was held where the discussion was guided by a semi-structured interview schedule. Three key domains were identified using the CQR procedure: therapeutic relationship, response of others, and treatment experiences. Conclusions: The pervasive theme that appeared to emerge throughout the session was the lack of understanding by others including family, friends and health professionals.
