Abstract

Lagos State is at the forefront of the Nigerian economy. Although many migrate to Lagos State with hopes of improving their livelihoods, the state struggles to plan for and meet the needs of this growing population. The Lagos State Government has a clear vision of a megacity that is sustainable, organized, livable and business and tourism friendly. The plan of the government to move Lagos State towards becoming a megacity for prosperous economy and sustainable environment has witnessed several challenges. Analyzing the impact of Lagos State's urban renewal programs on the lives and well-being of slum residents was framed through the concept of social exclusion. The Lagos State Urban Renewal Program falls under the statutory responsibility of the Lagos State Urban Renewal Authority. The Lagos State governor, however, insisted that legal remedies are in place but that they are being stolen from residents.
