Abstract

Maternal excessive folic acid intake induced hyperactivity and a low anxiety state, whereas maternal undernutrition led to hypoactivity. Furthermore, brain monoamine profiles in offspring were transformed by excessive maternal folic acid fortification and undernutrition in different directions. Excessive maternal folic acid fortification and undernutrition may alter offspring behavior through additive or synergistic effects on brain monoamine profiles.
