Little is known about the RNA content in specific subcellular compartments or about the mechanisms that allow their localization, due in large part to difficulty in isolating RNA from specific areas of interest. In this issue, Lo et al describe Halo-seq, a proximity labeling technique that can label and profile RNA from specific subcellular compartments in live cells. The cover image depicts an artistic representation of different subcellular locations, highlighted with different colors. The colors of the major compartments were changed using look-up tables (cytoplasm - yellow/green; nuclei - blue; cellular projection - magenta). The fluorescent images, taken by Hei-Yong G. Lo, are a collage of multiple, separate images of HeLa cells. Image provided by the authors. View all latest articles RelatedInformation
