Abstract

Since mid-century, oil supply disruptions from the Middle East have been linked to Arab-Israeli wars. Following the expulsion of Iraq from Kuwait, Israel has begun to feel more secure and more willing to negotiate with its Arab neighbours. Palestinian hopes for an autonomous Palestine may be channelled into pressure for Jordan to welcome more Palestinians and possibly turn into a Palestinian state. In any case the era of radical Israel behaviour as a beleaguered warrior nation has ended for now.
