Abstract

This chapter discusses the impact of Max Boisot's work, and in particular of the i-Space concept, on the value of fundamental research such as particle physics. The focus of analysis is the ATLAS-project at CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Using the i-Space as a conceptual model, the nature of new, generated knowledge is described and its potential value to society addressed. The further use of options theory thinking is proposed and as set of possible variables identified.
