Abstract

Starch gel-electrophoresis was used to survey genetic variation among samples from four different populations of Barbus brevipinnis. Thirteen of 30 loci were found to be polymorphic. It is suggested, based on the extent of the genetic differences between populations, that the populations collected from the Waterberg should be regarded as an undescribed species of Barbus.
