Abstract

A microscopic theory for heavy ion charge exchange reaction is formulated. The approach includes one-step direct charge exchange processes via the isovector NN-interaction and contributons from sequential, proton-neutron transfer processes, which are at least of second order. Nuclear structure is described in microscopic models and a realistic NN-interaction is used in the scattering calculations. Applications of the theory to heavy ion charge exchange reactions at incident energies per nucleon 10 MeV ≲ E/ A ≲ 200 MeV are discussed.
