The wavelengths of the isotopic lines are found to be in excellent agreement with predicted wavelengths. Coarse analysis indicates that in the sunspot region the isotopic ratios of mangesium, 24Mg: 28Mg: 28Mg, are nearer to 60:20:20 than to the terrestrial and meteoritic values of 79:10:11. Detailed analysis, based on several different sunspot models, also yields isotopic ratios of approximately 60:20:20. Because of uncertainties involving sunspot models, continuum location, line blending, and scattering photospheric light, the conclusion is limited to the statement that the heavy isotopes of magnesium appear to be enhanced in the Sun relative to the Earth. Further study based upon photoelectric spectrophotometry and improved sunspot models is suggested.
