Abstract

Abstract Phase equilibria in Al–Ti–Zr ternary system at 1273 K were experimentally investigated through alloy sampling combined with electron probe micro-analyzer (EPMA) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). No ternary compound was detected. Experimental results show that there is a continuous solid solution β(Ti, Zr) which dissolves up to 25.5 at.% Al, and Ti can substitute Zr in most Al–Zr binary intermediate phases to a certain degree while the maximum solubility of Zr in α 2 (Ti 3 Al) and γ(TiAl) reaches up to 25 at.% and 9 at.%, respectively. The isothermal section consists of 16 single-phase regions, 26 two-phase regions and 14 three-phase regions.
