Abstract

The goal of this study was to compare the oxidation behavior of two additively manufactured 48–2–2 TiAl alloys (with banded and not banded microstructures) with a conventionally cast one at 760, 815 and 871 °C. The study focused on the transition from the incubation stage of oxidation to the break-away oxidation that was observed during isothermal oxidation tests. Detailed high resolution STEM investigations were performed to characterize the microstructure, chemistry and phase composition of the oxidation products formed at various stages of oxidation at 760 °C.
