Abstract

The adiabatic and isothermal susceptibilities of MnCl 2·4H 2O in the ordered region are obtained as a function of field and temperature from a.c. susceptibility measurements. The relation between χ s, χ T and the specific heat is discussed. It is found that χ T diverges on the λ-line with a critical exponent α' = 0.10(5). The behaviour near the bicritical point and the spin-flop field is also discussed.
