Abstract

Abstract Using a theorem due to Brown (1967), isostress contours are constructed around finite segments of partial dislocations in silver. From these the stress fields of arbitrary configurations consisting of partials can be constructed; because of elastic anisotropy the fields are quite complicated. Unusual features, such as attraction/repulsion of partials and zig-zagging of partials in unstable directions, can be visualized with these contours.
