Abstract
The effect of isospin splitting of the giant dipole resonance of the final nucleus on neutron capture cross sections in N = Z nuclei is discussed. The 40Ca(n, γ) ground-state transition is taken as an example. The suggested modification of the semi-direct capture model gives an improved description of the energy dependence of the 40Ca(n, γ 0) cross section.
