Abstract

A strong 1+ state which has a large component of the π(h11-1/2hg/2) configuration was found at 5.845 MeV in 208Pb from the reactions 208Pb(p,p') and 209Bi(d,3He). Microscopic DWBA calculations of (p,p') cross sections show that the 1+ state has a predominant isoscalar nature. This conclusion is consistent with the large spectroscopic factor deduced from the (d,3He) experiment.
