Abstract
Isopropanol (CAS 67-63-0) is commonly found in household products, rubbing alcohol, and hand sanitizers. Exposure may occur in occupational or non-occupational settings. In the occupational setting, exposure usually occurs among workers involved in production of acetone or products containing isopropanol. In the non-occupational setting exposure leading to poisoning usually occurs through oral ingestion, which mainly causes sedation and gastrointestinal irritation. Treatment is primarily supportive although hemodialysis can be used for severe intoxication with coma and hypotension or markedly elevated isopropyl alcohol concentrations.
