Abstract

A simple proposal is presented for understanding hadron isomultiplet mass differences as being the sum of two contributions: the elastic electromagnetic self energy and a part that may be visualized as a mass difference between the p and n quarks. The ensuing calculation, even in its crudest manifestation, leads to remarkable agreement with the observed pattern of mass differences in terms of a single parameter.
