Abstract

Hyperlipidemia is one of the major issues which results in serious cardiovascular complications. Plant-based medicinal products have been commonly used for several chronic disorders. Guggulsterone isomers is proven to be cholesterol lowering activity which is a major bioactive compound present in Commiphora mukul and Commiphora wighti . On the basis of existing clinical evidence, it seems that guggulsterone is much helpful in reduction of Low-density lipoprotein levels. On the other hand, it is important to consider clinical pharmacokinetics of Guggulsterone isomers to create a definitive decision in this context. • Guggulsterone isomer is one of the major bioactive compounds present in Commiphora species. • Guggulsterone antagonizes the Farnesoid X Receptor, which involves the conversion of cholesterol into bile acids. • Long term administration of Guggulsterone isomers shows a significant reduction of LDL-C.
