Abstract

Summary Bacterial strains were isolated from the rhizosphere of Ammophila arenaria, which demonstrate spezific nitrogenase activities to 660 nmol C2H4 per mg protein and hour in pure culture (at 25°C). 55% of all isolated diazotrophic strains produce phytohormone like substances in bacterial pure culture. Diazotrophic strains, which also produce phytohormone like substances in pure culture, stimulated the shoot and root growth in germination and hydroponic experiments.
